Dottery Fun!!

Last Saturday I had the opportunity to get together with Bethany and Kassie! It really is amazing how that seems to work out. All three of us live in different states. I think if we were to try and plan to get together it wouldn't work out. But somehow it magically works out and we are able to get together quite a bit!! YEA! We started out with lunch with the men and kids.

Matt and the boys had to rush off to get the house ready for another house showing. Bummer. The people who looked at it decided they didn't want a two story. Sigh. Someday it will sell right? After lunch, us ladies went to paint and chat.

We always have so much fun together. I have written about our dottery fun before- like HERE and HERE. So I won't rehash how much I love it. Again- we got our Starbucks- cold drinks this time- and dotted away.

I mostly just wanted to show off our creative pieces. They are all unfinished. But I am super excited to see the results. I did a spoon rest (see above). Kassie wasn't in the mood to dot today so she did a glaze effect piece.

Right now it looks gray and boring, but it will magically turn into peacock colors! I hope I get to see the finished product!! Bethany did a plate.

Aren't the colors awesome? I seem to get stuck in a rut with my color choices. Bethany chose these colors and I LOVED THEM!! So did Kassie- as she bought the plate Bethany made. I decided to make another piece, a bowl, using her colors.

Some day I want to make our dinner plates. But that seems a little overwhelming right now. That's a whole lot of plates and bowls to do. But it would be cool wouldn't it?!

It was another fantastic day!! Can't wait to do it again girlies!!

Dottery and Dinner

Saturday was a really busy day for us. It was jammed packed with lots of exciting events! Like Alex riding his bike (already blogged about here), a repeat house showing (which nothing happened-sigh), and sushi (already blogged about here). The rest of Saturday included dottery and dinner.

Yes you read that right- dottery. Its painting pottery- but we just dot it a lot instead of painting pictures on it. I have blogged about it before here. Wow lots of linking to other blogs in this post! :) Anyway, Bethany, Kassie and I had the opportunity to go paint..I mean dot pottery- dottery.

We had a blast. We got our caffeine, our item to paint, our choice of colors, and were ready to begin. We chatted the time away. Talking about everything girls talk about- life- you know things like home schooling, kids, marriage, alcohol, food, etc. It was perfect...well almost perfect. There was this birthday party that was going on the same time. I have NOTHING against birthday parties. I have been known to attend and throw many birthday events. This one however-YIKES! I felt sorry for the pottery workers. The two parental figures didn't keep an eye on the party. Kids were smashing cake in their faces. Kids were running around a POTTERY SHOP! Big no-no if you don't want things broken. Kids were screaming. It was chaotic to say the least. But that didn't stop our fun. We just tuned them out and talked to each other in outside voices.

What I love about getting together with these girls (besides that they are both awesome friends and I love to hang out with them) is that they don't mind when I shove a camera in their face and click away. In fact, they do the same thing.

Sometimes I get a little self conscience when I start taking pictures of random or not so random things. So its nice to have other friends around who are doing the same thing.

That evening Joe and Kassie and Bethany, Annalie, and Debbie all came over for dinner. Bethany was kind enough to take over the dinner plans and even cooked it for us in my kitchen. If you know me at all you know how much I LOVED and APPRECIATED that. So thank you again Bethany!! It was delicious! As were the margaritas!!

The kids love getting together. They always seem to have a good time. They played in the sandbox....

The adults tried to get lots of awesome pictures of them....Joe and Bethany did a far better job than I did. Its like the kids have paparazzi around all the time. :) They don't seem to care at all. They ham it up most of them time.

What more could you ask for? It was a really great time! We are looking forward to doing it again- hopefully soon!

Hooked on Dottery

This morning Bethany and I went to paint some pottery- or should I say dottery. I have always admired Bethany's dottery in her etsy shop. Today I was lucky enough to get my very own lesson in it! And can I just say how much I LOVED it!! I can't wait to do it again. We began by picking out a piece of pottery that we wanted to paint. I chose a plate and Bethany chose a coffee cup.

Next we chose what colors we wanted. Of course we had to have a hot beverage of choice to go along with it! Have I mentioned how much I love chi tea lattes? Man those are good.

I think that was the hardest part of the morning. Choosing what you wanted to do. There are so many choices and possibilities!! Once that decision was made, the rest was all about the dots.

Dottery is very zen like. I was so relaxed doing this!!

My first dottery plate!! I love it! Since I am a huge copy cat I decided to write something on it too. Bethany wrote "be mellow." on her mug. So I wanted to write something too. However, she mentioned that most people don't try to paint words on their plate. Most people aren't brave enough to try. I decided to be a dare devil and paint words! My hand was shaking the whole time, but I am proud to say I painted words on my plate!


Fitting don't you think? You know, because I have tripled my fun in life for very obvious reasons! And here is a picture of Bethany's mug.

We had so much fun doing our cup and plate that we decided to make a little magnet too. Again we needed to decide on colors, design, etc. What to do...what to do....

We made our decisions and began painting again. Bethany did a swirl thing and I did a dottery V. I have to admit not a cute as the plate, but not too bad.

These are our finished products, which wont look much like this after they are fired. The paint changes color and gets all shiny. I can't wait to see them when I pick them up next week!!


On a side note. I have also decided to use my creative juices in participating in 7 days. Its where you have to take a picture of yourself everyday for seven days. This is my best shot of today.
