There are Witches in the...

Well, kitchen. They might be in the air too, but yesterday they were in my kitchen.

Aren't they cute?

The boys and I had tons of fun making them. And then some more fun passing them out to our neighbors. They were cute and delicious!

Halloween 's a Comin!

Halloween is coming!! And we are getting really excited about it! The boys have their costumes picked out. I have candy bought...which may or may not make it to Halloween. Stupid chocolate addiction. Pumpkins are on the porch. And the decorations are up. Anyway....the other day my mom invited us to go to the Children's Museum because they had their Halloween haunted house set up.
The museum does this attraction every year. We have been before and the boys seem to love it. So we went again! We started upstairs....
I had kind of forgot that they had this exhibit now.
These used to be in Richmond Gordman- an old clothing store my mom used to shop in. She would shop while us kids would play on these awesome animals. Great memories...but I seriously can't imagine doing that today with my kids.
They also had a dinosaur exhibit. But my boys have never really been into dinosaurs so we didn't spend too much time there either.
We spent most of the time in the ball area and, of course, at the Halloween area.
Which was an awesome time! Haunted house, strobe lights, and a maze! What more could kids ask for?
Towards the end of our visit, my mom painted the boys faces....Halloween style!

I think she did an awesome job! Never knew she had that talent!
It was a great day!!

Yesterday we got "BOOed!" by a neighbor. Have I mentioned lately how much I love this neighborhood? :) We are so lucky to live where we do! We got a bag of candy on our doorstep with this sign:
The instructions are to pass it on to 2 more people! You are supposed to leave candy on someones doorstep, ring the bell and run. Its supposed to be anonymous. Good luck with that! Three 7 yr old boys each had their own way of going things. It made me laugh! I have to admit it's quite fun.

Today the boys are super excited because they are going to their very first non-school sponsored Halloween party!! Let the holiday fun begin!!

Halloween

So this post is a little overdue- but at least I am getting around to blogging about it right? :) My original plan was to blog a little bit for each event but since it's past Halloween and we are entering other blog worthy events I decided to just do one longish Halloween post.

Our Halloween celebration started Tuesday with trick or treating at Matt's work (MSI). We have done that every year since he started working there. It is great fun!! People there are SO GENEROUS!!

And the boys came home with overflowing bags of candy. We love it.

Later that week we had the school Halloween parties. Friday morning started out with my preschool class. I threw together a Halloween party using Ronna's helpful ideas. I think it went well. We had snacks, games and even did a little trick or treating. We all had fun and little kids are so cute when they dress up!!

Next came my kids parties.

Josh's class

I ended up volunteering to be Josh's lead parent to organize and throw their party. I didn't want to originally. I feel guilty about doing something like that for one kid and not the others. But Josh's class didn't have a volunteer and I didn't want him to not have a party so I volunteered. Whew. It came back to me VERY quickly why both Halloween and Valentine's day became my LEAST favorite holidays as a teacher. Too much chaos and sugar high kids for me!! WHEW! Needless to say at the end of that day I was exhausted!! Matt took pity on me and we went out to dinner and I may have had a margarita. Anyway back to Josh's party- over all I think things went well. With that said will I volunteer to do it again? Probably not. I felt like I was missing out on Zach and Alex's parties.

Before the actual class parties their school started out with an all school parade- which is always fun!! The kids all lined up to show off their costumes.

Alex was really excited because HIS class got to be the LEADER!! :)

I was really excited because the weather was SO AWESOME that it was awesome to watch the parade outside. Then came Josh's class....

And finally Zach's class....

After the parade, the kids ate snacks,

played games, and then it was time to go home.

Josh and his best friend

On Halloween night we had Eric, Karisa, Miranda and TJ over to trick or treat with us. It was laid back and awesome. We ordered pizza and let the kids play for a little bit before it was time to trick or treat. Eventually when it was dark enough the men took the kids out while us womenfolk hung out to chat and eat our weight in chocolate. Sounds like a perfect night to me!!

It was nice to hang out with them because we don't get to that often. The kids got tons more candy. So we decided to donate the majority of it to a dentist who ship the candy to the troops over seas. Win-win situation for all I think! Overall, I would say Halloween was a blast!!

Pumpkin Carving Fun

Yesterday was a perfect day to carve pumpkins not to mention a great way to end our weekend! It was a semi-decent day to take the pumpkins outside. I was happy about that. Now I didn't need to mop the floor when we were finished!! YEA!!

So Matt and I got the boys all set up on the deck to start making our Jack-O-Lanterns. Matt cut the tops off of them and the boys started to clean them out.

Alex found this part very disgusting.

This is Alex yelling "EWWWWWWW!"

Josh thought it was cool and tried to gross everyone out with the pumpkin innards.

Look at his ornery face!

Zach worked diligently on his.

When the pumpkins were seed and goo free, we let the boys design what they wanted their pumpkin faces to look like. Honestly, Alex could really care less about it. By this time he had lost most interest in the whole pumpkin carving activity. Whatever Matt suggested he was all for it. But then again he is a really easy going kid. Zach cared a lot about what his Jack-O-Lantern was going to look like.

Zach, being the self proclaimed artist he is, drew quite a few different faces before deciding on one he liked....

And one that Matt could carve. There was much discussion on that.

Then it was Josh's turn. I have two very creative boys. But unfortunately, Matt and my carving skills are not up to their designs. But in the end, we got some pretty cool Jack-O-Lanterns I think.

Alex with his pumpkin.

Josh with his pumpkin.

And Zach with his pumpkin.

When it got dark, I interrupted the boys Star Wars game to get a picture with their glowing Jack-O-Lanterns!
